“Taking part in ECRA gave me the opportunity to assess the House of Colours Nursery in all the 6 domains, involving the whole staff team. As a Director, I have learned an enormous amount in taking part in this scheme. I strongly recommend other nurseries and preschools to take part in this program. Together we can make a difference to the children in the United Arab Emirates.”
“The rigorous requirements of identifying and submitting evidence of best practices, in six critical areas of early childhood education, provided an opportunity for the AKELC management to thoughtfully and thoroughly review the policies and operations that support high quality for the center’s children, staff and parents. It was professionally validating to receive specific commendations for the nursery and preschool programs, as well as to gain insights into areas for further development. We look forward to continued collaboration with the ECRA team.”

Obtaining ECRA accreditation offers several benefits for early childhood centers, including:
ECRA accreditation improves the quality of early childhood education services by providing a comprehensive evaluation framework across multiple domains, including child learning and development, child protection, health and safety, workforce professional development, and more. Centers receive detailed reports and actionable insights to identify strengths and areas for improvement, access resources and guidance for ongoing development, and work with independent Quality Advisors to implement tailored quality improvement plans.
Accreditation serves as a mark of quality that reassures parents and guardians about the high standards of care and education provided by your center. Accredited status can attract more families by demonstrating your commitment to maintaining excellence in early childhood education, making your center a preferred choice among parents seeking the best early learning environment for their children.
ECRA accreditation positively impacts parent satisfaction and trust by providing a transparent and rigorous evaluation of the center’s quality. The accreditation process ensures that the center meets globally recognized standards, which builds confidence among parents in the quality of care and education their children receive. Accredited centers also foster open communication with families, encouraging engagement and collaboration to continuously improve the learning environment.
You can apply for ECRA accreditation at any time. The process begins with submitting an application form through the ECRA website. Once your application is received, the ECRA team will review it to ensure that your center meets the necessary eligibility criteria to proceed with the accreditation journey.
The ECRA program features a five-tier quality enhancement system. Each tier represents a progressive step in quality improvement, guiding centers from foundational standards to exemplary practices. The tiers are designed to provide a pathway for continuous improvement, with Tier 1 being the entry-level and Tier 5 representing the highest standard of excellence. Centers are evaluated based on their adherence to ECRA’s comprehensive quality standards across multiple domains.
Yes, there are a few prerequisites for applying to the ECRA program. Your center must be an early childhood education setting or preschool serving children from birth to age 8. It must meet basic operational and safety standards and have a commitment to achieving and maintaining high-quality care and education standards. Additionally, centers are expected to complete a self-assessment to identify their readiness for the accreditation process.
The costs associated with obtaining and maintaining ECRA accreditation may include application fees, self-assessment tool fees, costs for evidence collection and documentation, fees for the on-site assessment visit, and ongoing costs for maintaining quality standards post-accreditation. Specific costs can vary depending on the size of the center, its location, and the level of support required. ECRA provides detailed information on fees upon inquiry or during the application process.
Financial assistance may be available for centers seeking ECRA accreditation, particularly for those in underserved or low-income areas. ECRA collaborates with various partners, including governments and non-profit organizations, to provide grants or subsidies to eligible centers. You can inquire directly with the ECRA team for information about available funding opportunities and eligibility criteria.
Yes, centers with budget constraints can still engage in the ECRA program. While full accreditation involves a comprehensive process, ECRA offers flexible options, such as starting with self-assessment tools or initial consultations with Quality Advisors. These options allow centers to gradually work toward full accreditation at their own pace, focusing on priority areas first and expanding efforts as resources become available.
To achieve ECRA accreditation, your center must meet a comprehensive set of standards across seven key domains:
Each standard includes specific criteria and best practices that centers must demonstrate through documentation, evidence, and on-site assessments.
ECRA accreditation standards are reviewed and updated regularly to ensure they reflect the latest research, best practices, and regulatory changes in early childhood education. Typically, the standards are reviewed every three years, although they may be updated more frequently if needed to address emerging issues or to incorporate new findings in child development and early learning.
ECRA standards include specific training requirements to ensure that all staff members are well-prepared to provide high-quality care and education. Requirements may include:
The duration of the ECRA accreditation process can vary depending on the size of the center, the completeness of the self-assessment, the preparation of required evidence, and the scheduling of the on-site assessment. On average, the process takes several months, from the initial application to the final accreditation decision. Centers are encouraged to engage actively throughout the process to expedite the timeline.
